Scott Carlson specializes in traditional timber framing and woodwork, small scale farming, small scale logging and milling, and traditional log building. As a professional timber framer at Sweetgrass Joinery in Huntsburg, Ohio, Scott is a master of square and scribe rule systems. His relationship with wood extends to casework, stairs, furnishings, door, and other such projects. His timber framing experience is enriched by his log building skill in Scandinavian full-scribe round log and hand hewn/dovetail construction.

Scott earned a B.S. in Forest Resource Management from the University of Montana, and spent five seasons with the USDA Forest Service in Montana, Idaho, and Alaska. Scott also traveled in Australia for three months conducting research for Australian paper manufacturers in 1989. He has one year of experience in traditional log building in Vermont, as well as 12 years experience in traditional timber framing in Vermont and Ohio. Scott established Sweetgrass Joinery in 2001. He also has 11 years' experience with vegetable, small fruit, and tree fruit farm work in Vermont and Ohio, as well as some limited experience with oxen.

"We currently live and work on my wife's family farm in Northeast Ohio. The farm has been in the family since 1903. We raise hay and mixed vegetables on eight or so acres and care for about three acres of apple orchard and vineyard. My wife, Nancy, raises early season tomatoes in high-tunnels. The farm also includes retail greenhouses in the spring and 20 or so acres of Christmas trees, directly retailed in late November and December. We also manage about 40 acres of farm woods with other family members. This is all in addition to our timber framing/woodworking business. Nancy and I have two daughters, Anna and Abby, 11 and nine.
