Dynamometer Gauges – by Tillers
Although oxen and draft horses generally work at about
10% of their body weight for sustained periods, they can and do
exert far more force in short efforts. You need to select a gauge
for your dynamometer that will not be redlined against the top end
too hard during the work that you want to check out. Yet you want
the sensitivity so you can see movement at the low-end. A 300 psi
gauge is great for loads peaking at 660 pounds, about 300 kg force.
A 600 psi work fine for heavier loads that approach 1,300 pounds,
about 600 kg force. The gauge is the most sensitive part of these
dynamometers, but relatively inexpensive. (Local suppliers may be
able to provide them at lower cost than Tillers can.) Sizes 300/600
psi.
