Herb Nehring receives Michigan Heritage Award.
At the 2008 Great Lakes Folk Festival (Downtown East Lansing) on Saturday, August 9th at 2:45 pm, the Michigan Traditional Arts Program of the Michigan State University Museum will present a Michigan Heritage Award to long-time blacksmith and Tillers instructor Herb Nehring, in honor of whose service and dedication the Tillers Nehring Blacksmith Shop was named. This event honors Michigan's outstanding traditional artists, with other awards going to Seikichi Iha of Lansing (Shido-kan karate-do) and John Hanna Sarweh of Fraser (Kanoun).
Brian Webb, Dick Roosenberg, Andrew Roberts, and Jan Ott leave late September for a training project in Uganda in conjunction with Catholic Relief Services. You can support these farmers by purchasing an ox, donkey, plow or cart.

opportunities for you to learn historical draft animal practices
and then integrate new, low-cost technologies.
Tillers is always researching
low-capital practices such as intensive rotational grazing and remote
solar water pumps to complement animal-powered farming systems.
Join us
in combining the best of yesterday and today with strategies that
can vitalize small farms around the world.
