Appalachian Broom Making - 183

Broom Making 2009 Class Weaving Stitching a broom

In Tillers' broom classes, take a traditional skill to a new artistic level. Make round, cobweb, and flat brooms, and (time permitting) whisk brooms and kitchen brushes. These brooms are not only useful, but are also decorative and wonderful gifts. This October class is just in time to make a Halloween broom! Learn broom handle selection, preparation, and surface finishing. Discuss the history of broom making, as well as broom corn selection. Build a foot treadle for tying and make the needles and holding device for stitching. This class will prepare you with the skills and equipment to begin making brooms on your own. All skill levels welcome. Product: several brooms.
