Farming with Draft Animals at Tillers International

Tillers practices appropriate technology farming techniques using primarily oxen and draft horses. Our 430 acre farm at Cook's Mill in Scotts, Michigan is a living laboratory for researching improved methods for farming with oxen and implement design. With our Carroll Abbey and other museum collections, we study American agricultural history and re-invent it for modern use in international projects.

Tillers raises grass-fed Milking Shorthorns, a heritage breed, for oxen and beef and, eventually, milk. We also raise a herd of dairy goats, sheep, poultry, draft horses, and one geriatric donkey named Groovy. We make hay for our animals and rotate a small quantity of field crops for educational use.
