Tillers Instructor Bruce Woodward
Bruce's contemporary and traditional designs are forged and fabricated with hand, treadle, and power hammers using the techniques of both the traditional blacksmith and the modern metalsmith, occassionally incorporating nonferrous and precious metals for accent. He emphasizes design, layout, forging, fabrication, and finishing in his workshops.
Bruce has been a professional blacksmith since the early 1990s, including five years of experience with retail and wholesale arts and crafts shows around the country. He has operated a one person blacksmith shop since the early nineties has presented demonstrations on blacksmithing techniques since the late nineties. Bruce has been a Tillers artistic blacksmithing instructor since about 2000. His classes frequently address special projects such as architectural forgings, large-scale gate hardware for Tillers' main entrance, and working with wrought iron.
Bruce is a Board of Directors member of the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America (ABANA), a member of the Western Reserve Artist Blacksmith Association, and the British Artist Blacksmith Association. Committed to youth education, he has also conducted classes at Tillers and elsewhere for the Boy Scouts of America, in which the Scouts have the opportunity to earn their Metalworking Merit Badge.
