Animals and Ironies: Wizards Revisited - NEW!

 

This class will cover techniques for making stylized animals and wizards. Some of the specialty tools to be used, such as the eye punch, will be made during the class. Feel free to bring project ideas! Product: 3D wizard, owl, specialty tools.

Architectural Ironwork

 

Learn the basic techniques and methods for doing architectural ironwork such as railings, gates, fireplace screens, and furniture. Scrolls and joinery will be shown. Students with a specific project or question are encouraged to bring them along. The business of selling your work will also be discussed. Scott Lankton has made a living forging architectural ironwork for over 30 years.

Fruit Stand - NEW!

 

Enhance skills learned in Blacksmithing I & II, making a fruit stand designed for bananas to hang above a bowl for other fruits (students to provide their own bowls, about 10" wide). Techniques include making a punch, making rivets, drawing out, scrolling, punching, riveting, and forging a ring. Students can add chiseling and punching designs, as time permits. Product: fruit stand.

Tools for Home and Hearth

 

This class will focus on smithing smaller, more intimate items used in the kitchen, cooking out, or with the fireplace or forge. Students are encouraged to come hungry to learn with a project in mind! Scott has been doing ornamental ironwork (and cooking most days) for 30 years. Product: fireplace tools or kitchen utensils.

Candlesticks - NEW!

 

Enhance skills learned in Blacksmithing I & II, making a pair of candlesticks from 3/4" pipe. Skills will include making a spring fuller, fullering the pipe, flaring the end, splitting, drawing out, scrolling, drilling, and tapping. Students may embellish the candlesticks or feet with shaping, chiseling, punching, etc. as desired and as time permits. Product: candlesticks.
